Blue Pencil

An AI editor that marks up your draft.

Select a sentence, a paragraph or a whole section. Blue Pencil returns its edit as markup — struck words go, underlined words come in — and waits. Accept it and it’s one step you can undo. Reject it and your text stays exactly as it was.

The black caret is you. The blue one is Blue Pencil.

Improve

We are very excited toglad to announce that the new version is now available for everyone to usethe new version is out.

Fix

Every draft havehas it’sits weak spots, and theirthey’re easier to see the next morning.

Your instruction · “make it warmer”

Your request has been received and will be processed in due course. Thanks — we’ve got your note and we’re on it.

Six edits, or your own words

Improve, Shorten, Expand, Fix, Tone and Translate are one click away. For anything else, press ⌘J and say what you want: “cut this in half”, “lead with the second sentence”, “less jargon”.

Every change is visible

Edits arrive as revision marks with how much of the passage changed, so a 4% fix never looks like a 60% rewrite. Turn on Show AI edits and text Blue Pencil wrote stays marked after you accept it; what you type never inherits the mark.

Nothing is lost

A version is saved before every edit is applied, and one accept is one undo. Version history also keeps a copy every 10 minutes while you write, so you can always go back.

Ask and Review, for the whole draft

Ask answers questions about the draft — an outline, five titles, where the argument is weakest — and can put the answer at your cursor. Review reads the whole piece like an editor and leaves a few notes on clarity, concision, flow, grammar, consistency and phrasing that sounds machine-written. Each note can be fixed with Blue Pencil.

How to use it

  1. Select the text you want edited — a word, a sentence or several paragraphs.
  2. Pick an edit from the bar that appears, or press ⌘J (Ctrl+J on Windows) and type your own instruction.
  3. Read the markup, then press ⌘↵ to accept or Esc to reject — or try again for a different version.

Questions

Will Blue Pencil change my text without asking?

No. Every edit waits for you. Rejecting leaves your text exactly as it was, and accepting can be undone in one step.

How is Blue Pencil use counted?

By the words it writes back, not by requests — English and Spanish by word, Chinese and Japanese by character. The Free plan includes a one-time allowance; Pro has no limit. See Pricing.

Which AI does it use, and does it learn from my writing?

Blue Pencil runs on DeepSeek, with prompts written separately for each language. Your documents are never used to train AI models; the details are in our Privacy Policy.
